Three-vehicle accident injures police officer, three drivers

Police officers work hard to clear away debris from accident scenes and to get traffic moving again. Occasionally, however, officers find themselves in the path of a moving car or truck after the jam is cleared, and they become casualties of the crash. A recent car and truck accident in Fairfax County near the intersection of Route 28 and Interstate 66, in addition to injuring the three drivers, injured a Fairfax County police officer who was directing traffic after the major accident debris had been removed from the scene.

The accident occurred at about 5:00 a.m. A dump truck overturned and landed on a car whose driver was still inside. A large box truck was also involved in the collision. The drivers of the two trucks and the car all suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken from the scene. The accident knocked down nearby power lines and traffic signals at the busy intersection were disabled for about several hours.

Without traffic signals, the police were required to personally direct traffic. About one hour after traffic began moving again, a Fairfax County police officer was struck by a moving vehicle. This incident once again shut down the southbound lanes. The officer's injuries were deemed non-life threatening, but he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police traffic investigators are still trying to sort out the events that led to this collision.

The sequence of events in a multi-vehicle accident often happen rapidly, and they can be difficult to reconstruct. Anyone who has been injured or lost a loved one in a multi-vehicle accident may wish to seek the advice of a lawyer who is experienced in handling traffic accident cases. A knowledgeable attorney may be able provide advice on the cause of the accident and the likelihood of recovering damages from the party or parties who caused the accident.
