Chain reaction crash kills one, injures six near Appomattox

Police officers in Appomattox County are trying to untangle the events that led to a four-vehicle accident that killed one person. The car accident occurred on Red House Road near Appomattox.

Emergency workers were summoned to the scene of the accident at about 4:00 p.m. They encountered an accident scene involving four vehicles, six injured people and one fatality. Police investigating the accident said that a pickup tried to avoid hitting a car at the intersection of Red House Road and Robinson Road. The truck missed the car but hit another pickup truck head-on. A Jeep struck one of the trucks, hit a tree and overturned. The driver of the Jeep died in the collision. A fourth vehicle received minor damage in the accident.

All in all, six people were injured in the accident. They were transported to Lynchburg General Hospital for treatment of their injuries. The nature of the injuries suffered by the Jeep driver were not disclosed. Police said that criminal charges are pending, but they did not disclose the identity of possible defendants or state whether alcohol was a contributing factor.

Even though details are scarce, the police appear to have identified one of the surviving drivers as the cause of the accident. The remaining five injured people and the family of the decedent may all have claims against the responsible person. Untangling liability in a multi-vehicle crash can be a difficult task. People who have been involved in such accidents or lost a loved one under similar circumstances may wish to consult an experienced personal injury attorney for advice on the facts of the case, possible theories of liability and an estimate of the likelihood of recovering damages.
